icf mentor coaching

Develop your coaching capability - not simply your credential

Mentor Coaching is an opportunity to step back from doing the coaching and spend time deliberately developing how you coach.

Through observation, reflection, feedback and conversation, we explore your coaching practice in relation to the ICF Core Competencies - what you are already doing well, where you may be getting in your own way, and what might strengthen your effectiveness as a coach.

For some coaches, Mentor Coaching forms part of their ICF credentialing or renewal requirements. For others, it is an opportunity to return to the fundamentals of good coaching and continue developing their craft.

My approach is to meet the credentialing requirements while making the experience genuinely useful to your ongoing development as a coach.

Is Mentor Coaching right for you?

This program may suit you if you are:

  • working towards your ACC credential through a pathway requiring Mentor Coaching

  • renewing your ACC credential

  • working towards your PCC through a pathway requiring Mentor Coaching

  • completing Mentor Coaching separately from your coach education program

  • part-way through your Mentor Coaching requirements and needing additional group or individual hours

  • looking for structured feedback and reflection to strengthen your coaching practice.

ICF requirements differ depending on your credential and application pathway. For example, coaches applying through some ICF-accredited education pathways will already have completed Mentor Coaching within their education program, while Portfolio applicants complete it separately.

If you are unsure whether you still need Mentor Coaching, I am happy to help you work through your pathway before you enrol.

Program Options & Investment

The complete Mentor Coaching package brings together the shared learning of the group program with three individual sessions focused specifically on your coaching practice and development.

You can also complete the group or individual components separately where this better fits your existing Mentor Coaching hours and credentialing requirements.

*If three or more coaches enrol together, each participant receives the reduced group rate of $650 including GST, or $1,250 including GST for the Complete Mentor Coaching Package.

What will we work on?

Mentor Coaching is grounded in your actual coaching practice rather than simply discussing the competencies in theory.

Across the program we will explore opportunities to:

  • deepen your understanding and application of the ICF Core Competencies

  • strengthen coaching presence and active listening

  • develop stronger coaching partnerships

  • increase awareness of when you may be leading, advising, consulting or solving rather than coaching

  • strengthen your capacity to evoke awareness and facilitate client growth

  • observe coaching and practise providing and receiving developmental feedback

  • identify your individual coaching strengths

  • recognise patterns and opportunities for further development

  • build greater confidence in your coaching capability.

There will be opportunities to coach, observe coaching, reflect on your own practice and learn from the different approaches and perspectives within the group.

The intention is not to create one "right" way to coach. It is to help you become more aware, more deliberate and increasingly capable of demonstrating effective coaching at the credential level you are working towards.

Your Individual Mentor Coaching Sessions

The complete program also includes three individual 60-minute Mentor Coaching sessions.

These sessions allow us to focus more closely on your particular coaching practice, learning priorities and credentialing goals.

Your individual sessions can be scheduled before, during or after the group program, depending on what will be most useful for you.

Many coaches choose to complete at least some of their individual sessions after the group program. This provides time to apply the group learning, record a coaching conversation, review their own practice and return with something specific to explore.

Others choose to commence their individual sessions earlier because they are working towards a credential application and would like to have their Mentor Coaching requirements completed soon after the group component finishes.

There is no single sequence that suits everyone.

Together, we will agree on timing that meets the relevant ICF requirements while also giving you enough space to practise, reflect and consolidate your learning.

More than simply completing 10 hours

It can be tempting to approach Mentor Coaching as another requirement to complete before submitting an application.

I encourage participants to use it differently.

The value often sits in what happens between sessions - trying something, noticing a pattern, listening back to a recording, experimenting with silence or questions, or becoming aware of the moments where the urge to help can take us out of coaching.

The individual sessions provide an opportunity to bring that learning back into the conversation.

Rather than rushing through the 10 hours, the aim is to create enough continuity for the learning to build while keeping the overall engagement focused and purposeful.

Why work with me?

I am an ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC), Mentor Coach and Credentialed Coaching Supervisor.

I have supported coaches through Mentor Coaching, professional development and the ICF credentialing process, including helping coaches make sense of requirements that have not always been easy to navigate.

My style combines support with thoughtful challenge.

I want you to understand what you are doing well, but I will also invite you to notice the habits, assumptions and patterns that may be limiting your coaching.

The aim is not simply to help you pass an assessment or complete a requirement.

It is to help you become a more thoughtful, capable and confident coach.
